Physician-assisted suicide or in common terms mercy killing is a highly arguable issue. It was recently made legal in California and Washington DC. Ethically, any sort of suicide or killing is considered to be a crime but circumstances become such that at times for few unfortunate patients it becomes imperative to select this. There have been times when euthanasia has sparked serious debates. But in 1984 Royal Dutch Medical Association gave a decision that it can be done professionally and is acceptable to give a lethal injection to a patient under certain situations (Dignity, n.d.).
